Mission • To attract and cultivate the next generation of municipal finance leaders.
Goal • To encourage college students to view government finance as an exciting and challenging career opportunity and expose students to government finance by providing work experience, mentoring, and training opportunities.
Award Details • GFOAz will award two students with a 10-week paid internship between May 31 – August 31 at a participating city, town or county. Locations will vary, must be willing to travel or relocate. After successful completion, the student will also receive a $5,000 tuition scholarship!
The student also has the option to accept any of the following bonus awards:
o One-year membership to GFOAz
o Complimentary registration & two nights lodging at the 2022 GFOAz Winter Conference in Flagstaff
o Complimentary registration & two nights lodging at the 2022 GFOAz Summer Conference in Tucson
o Complimentary registrations to one-day GFOAz trainings in January, May, and October
Applicant Eligibility Criteria
• Enrolled an Arizona-based accredited university
• Complete 60 credits by May 2022
• Degree major in accounting, finance, economics, public administration, business or another or related program
• 3.0 GPA or higher
• Minimum 18 years of age, able to work legally in the U.S. and and complete host organization’s hiring requirements
• Submit a complete application by the due date Deadline
• Applications are due on December 3, 2021

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP/INTERNSHIP INFORMATION
Internship Details • The internship will span a period of 10 weeks and, based on the student’s availability, may consist of anywhere from 200 to 400 hours of paid work time. Generally, office hours will range between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. The hourly rate paid to the student may range from $15.00 to $20.00 per hour depending on experience. • Internship recipients are expected to complete the length of the internship and must fulfill duties provided by the entity in a satisfactory manner in order to qualify for the scholarship. • College credit for internship time is not offered at this time.
Scholarship Details • The $5,000 scholarship award will be dispersed directly to the recipient’s university for educational expenses (i.e. books, tuition) upon successful completion of the internship. • The scholarship recipient must submit proof of registration (tuition), name of university, and address to registrant’s office for payment. Assessment Criteria • Demonstrated leadership qualities through involvement in school activities or volunteer organizations • Progressive attainment of knowledge and skills within the finance field • A strong work ethic and commitment to academic achievement
