The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a regional monitoring and assessment analyst for our Idaho Falls Regional Office. This position serves as the lead analyst for the Beneficial Use Reconnaissance Program (BURP). This position completes regional water body assessments as part of the Integrated Report development, implements water quality monitoring programs, and assists with total maximum daily load (TMDL) development.
$25.28 – $28.00 Hourly
$52,582.40 – $58,240.00 Annually
Example of Duties:
- Implement the BURP program for the Idaho Falls region including, hiring, selecting sample sites, creating monitoring and training plans, and attending coordinator training.
- Perform data quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), send samples to the appropriate analytical facilities, and maintain, purchase, and organize field gear.
- Work with regional staff and technical services to assist with TMDL activities including fieldwork, GIS, writing and editing, data analysis, data management, and data QA/QC.
- Work with the state office to carry out water body assessments for the Integrated Report.
- Provide technical information and/or assistance to staff and external agencies, give presentations, and participate in committee work, project QA/QC, and community outreach.
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in the physical or biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field OR any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year bachelor’s degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis and preparation of reports and written documents for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.
At least four (4) years’ experience managing and implementing, projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental, regulatory, or administrative in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.
Possession of a master’s degree in any of the above fields AND at least two (2) years’ professional experience managing and implementing, or overseeing projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.
Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):
- DEQ 3131 Water Quality – Knowledge of water quality and work experience in water pollution monitoring, estimation, or control such as reviewing, designing, or implementing surface water quality monitoring projects, watershed, TMDL evaluation, riparian area, aquatic habitat, water quality, source water assessments, environmental assessments, pollutant source assessments, including municipal, industrial and storm water point sources and non-point source activities such as forestry, mining, agriculture, and grazing. Typically met by possession of a college degree in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Fisheries, Biology, Chemistry, Limnology, Hydrology, Environmental Science or closely related field; OR education and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree; AND two (2) years of work experience in water pollution monitoring, estimation or control such as reviewing, designing, or implementing surface water quality monitoring projects, watershed, TDML evaluation, riparian area, aquatic habitat, source water assessments, water quality or environmental assessments, pollutant source assessments, including municipal, industrial and storm water point sources and nonpoint source activities such as forestry, mining, agriculture, and grazing.
