PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Best Friends Animal Society has a vision to bring about a time when there are no more homeless pets. For the last 35-years we have built programs, developed partnerships, and grew a culture of kindness and respect for all living creatures. This stems not only into the time, care, and attention we give to the animals, but to our staff, volunteers, and coalition who are a huge part of our success.
In Los Angeles, we have two Lifesaving Center locations – Mission Hills and West LA. Through adoptions and fostering we move 1000s of animals into loving forever homes as well as provide resources to the public such as caring for found kittens, assisting in cat/dog behavioral challenges, and giving guidance on low-cost vet options.
As the Project Management Intern, you will be helping to build out an Onboarding System for new staff members. The purpose of this project is to develop a way for new employees to learn the skills needed to do their job successfully, have a resource to return to as they are learning, as well as have a way that their manager/supervisor can keep track of various skills that they review during training. This in turn will give stability to new members of our team as well as give staff a launching pad to be able to move in other roles as they gain the necessary knowledge.
Part time and full-time interns may apply. This internship is offered for academic credit. You must be a participant in an accredited academic internship program. This is an unpaid internship and housing is not provided. Start date is flexible.
• Review and update current onboarding documents for care giving (cat, dog, nursery), adoption, foster, cleaning protocols, volunteers, medical, admissions, and transport.
• Layout all documents into the same formats.
• Support the Community Engagement Manager and Lifesaving & Care Coordinator in managing schedules and milestones; ensuring that weekly project statuses are received from team members. • Identify and manage scope, constraints, issues, assumptions, and deadlines.
• Coordinate discussions with Animal Care, Outcome, and Medical Supervisors and Managers to develop training resources that may be missing/needed.
• Create new documents for the Trello Boarding Training Files.
• Measure the project performance to suggest areas of improvement.
• Excellent MS Office or equivalent skills
• Knowledge/understanding of Trello
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Self-directed: must be able to complete projects with limited supervision
• Ability to take ownership and ask for help when needed
• Interest in animal welfare, animal care, and/or staff training

To be considered for this position you must be currently enrolled in a college/university internship program.
CREDIT: College credit toward related major, minor or general electives.
START DATE: On or near the first day of the semester, negotiable.
END DATE: On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable.
HOURS PER WEEK: To be determined, dependent upon total number of hours required to complete internship. Preferably 10-15 hours per week.
