APS Palo Verde is looking for Industrial Hygiene/Safety Summer Intern to join their team in Tonopah, AZ at the Palo Verde Generating Station.
As a Safety Intern, you will have the opportunity to participate in the Intern Professional Development Program, which is designed to cultivate professional skills and provide professional level work at Arizona Public Service. The Safety Intern will be provided on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies.
The Safety Intern will report to the stations Industrial Safety Department and responsible in assisting with the direction, planning, development, and coordination of the plants’ safety and human performance programs. The Safety Intern will work to develop and sustain a zero-injury culture with employees and contractors to define expectations, drive performance improvement strategies and establish processes for compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.

The Palo Verde Summer internship is a paid 10 week program. During the 10 weeks at Palo Verde you will be equipped with the tools needed to thrive and be challenged with meaningful individual and group projects. You will get support from leaders who will help you succeed. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in a New Hire Orientation, Professional Development opportunities and company tours to learn more about Palo Verde and Arizona Public Service.
The Palo Verde Internship is a paid 10 week program starting in May, ending in July. Qualified students will receive housing during the program.

Under the direction of the Industrial Safety Department, selected candidates may:
Assist in providing technical / analytical guidance regarding OSHA regulations, as well as the consensus standards (i.e., NFPA, ASTM, ANSI, DOT, etc.)
Help to Maintain the Stations OSHA 300 and 300A logs and summary to OSHA on an annual basis
Understanding and application of safety rules, along with consulting and advising directors, managers, supervisors, employees, and other personnel with respect to the company’s Safety Human Performance program
Assist the Industrial Safety Department with educating employees on safe and error free work practices, investigating accidents, and taking steps to prevent reoccurrences
Overseeing fall protection, scaffold erection/dismantling, permit required work and asbestos (building inspector) needs
Preparing and filing safety records/reports, as well as maintaining monthly accident frequency/severity ratings and reviewing accident reports
Supporting multiple plant safety and human performance committees and initiatives
Help to provide technical and analytical guidance to conduct industrial hygiene assessments and devise monitoring plans
Performing safety audits and conducting hazard assessments while recommending the proper means of approved personal protective equipment
Proficient in excel, word and power point presentations

Minimum Requirements
Actively enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate degree program.
Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.
3.0 GPA or higher
Must be currently in their Junior or Senior year at the start of the Internship
Must be able to work in both an office and plant environment with the ability to comply with safety procedures.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications and computer-aided design programs
Positive communication skills as well as organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet project deadline
